Hemodialysis (High flux)
High Flux dialysis removes toxins with a broader molecular size.
High Flux Dialysis is beneficial for the patient’s health in the medium and long term. However, successful high flux dialysis requires dialysis machines with controlled ultrafiltration, a perfect system for preparing and controlling the water which forms the dialysate, and special filters.
Filters with slightly larger holes are used to increase the removal of the larger molecules, and the pressure inside the capillary is also increased for forced removal of toxins. It is very important to choose the correct type of dialysis filter; they vary in the number and type of capillaries, the type of sterilisation, the pore size and last but not least the membrane material.
A great deal of work has been done on the technology to make the filter behave as closely as possible to the kidney, in its function as a molecular sieve.
